How to effectively potty train a Morkie puppy
Potty training a Morkie puppy is a relatively simple task. Keep a few things in mind.
1) Consistency is the key - The more often you take your Morkie puppy outside, out the same door, and to the same area, the quicker they will learn to train.
2) Control their food and water - Just like a kid, puppies will have to go to the bathroom shortly after eating or drinking anything. If you leave food and water out constantly, your Morkie will be going to the bathroom at random times. That can be very frustrating.
3) Positive reinforcement - Make a big deal out of your Morkie doing what they are supposed to do. For example, if you are training them to go outside and they do so, let them know your happy about it. They respond well to it.
Crate training is an often mentioned form of potty training a Morkie puppy. This does not mean throw your puppy in a crate all day and only let it out to go to the bathroom and eat and drink. Crate training your Morkie is meant to teach your Morkie to hold it for extended periods. Morkie puppies do not like to go to the bathroom where they sleep. By the time a Morkie puppy is 8 weeks of age, they should be able to hold it through the night. Use crate training only when you are not able to tend to your puppy!
